I don't see anything new about the new year ...maybe i don't have adequate perception skills; maybe I have a pair of blinders on like a carriage horse in NYC traffic at rush hour.  I feel like I am proceeding through life rubbernecking at the wreckage all around me.  My little town has a former tax collector indicted for theft in excess of $93,000.00 (we are less than 3000 of us here with only one stoplight).  The brand new seawall installed in 2008 at a cost of upwards of $2 million started to crumble before it was completed; now about 3/4 of it lies in the water and lawsuits abound.  The brand new NJ Motorsports Complex lies just to our southeast with all the traffic from the west and south (Pennsylvania, Delaware, and more) going right through our town to get there; not a single business in our future despite a tax abatement offer and other benefits.  The township put all services up for bid, nobody did as far as I know.  We have thick politics which, surprisingly, is a microcosm of the nation and maybe the world.  We have intergroup strife, intragroup strife, hate crimes, bombings, drugs, deceipt, and the rest of what makes us human!  Or, does it?
